Born in 1965 in Nagasaki, a city where Japanese, Western, and Chinese cultures mingle. His family was not involved in crafts, nor was he raised in a craft-producing region. At the starting point of a man who would later partner with artisans across Japan, there was no lineage of tradition.

While majoring in economics at university, he immersed himself in fashion, art, and film, but it was the world of modern design that truly captivated him. At the age of 20, he was profoundly struck by Le Corbusier's sofas, Gio Ponti's chairs, Achille Castiglioni's lighting, and Mario Bellini's interior designs, all of which he saw at the Cassina showroom in Roppongi. In 1988, he joined Cassina's Japanese subsidiary. In his work of selling Italian furniture to Japanese architects and interior designers, he experienced cutting-edge spatial design created by leading professionals. Afterwards, he moved to a furniture select shop where he sold modern designs from around the world, significantly expanding his knowledge of design in general. Over 11 years in sales, he witnessed both items that were loved across generations and those that were consumed as fleeting trends. This sales experience would prove valuable later on.

In 1999, at the age of 33, he became independent and founded t.c.k.w Co., Ltd.
