In the Muromachi era, close to the shogun, there was a place called kaisho.

People crossed the boundaries of rank to bring their tastes and learning together — linked verse, tea, flowers, Noh. Different arts assembled for a single occasion, and within that unrepeatable play, a culture unique to Japan came into bloom. The ami-shū paired Chinese objects with Japanese ones, discovered the skill in a craftsman's hands, and brought makers together with those who could see their worth. Japanese creativity has been raised in this seedbed.

Five hundred years later, we open Amiami-an as a kaisho for our own time.

Those invited here are makers and connoisseurs who have gone deep into their own paths. The value lies in the dialogue itself, as a process. AMUAMI weaves together the words that could only be born in that room, and carries them out into the world.

Yoriai, tōza, shukō, sōhatsu — gathering, the moment at hand, invention, and what emerges. The spirit of kaisho lives here, now.
